<g:title>HURRICANE MELISSA FUNDRAISER </g:title>
<g:description>Hurricane season is getting worse across the Caribbean. Small islands are becoming more vulnerable as the years go by and the Climate Crisis gets worse. Hurricane Beryl (Jamaica 2024) was so powerful and destructive but Hurricane Melissa has been catastrophic. Tearing through Jamaica, Cuba and islands like Haiti, leaving weak and in some places non-existent, medical, educational and social systems that those nations rely on to survive.

We have been focused on raising the alarm of climate injustice, ecological breakdown and the role of colonialism in all of this for years and will continue to do so through our research and open-education models. We want to continue to hold hope for a collective future that safeguards the botanical, communal and land cultures of Caribbean peoples, and direct our work towards this.

Help us raise funds to support direct relief and rebuilding in Jamaica, as well as to develop education and conservation modes to support land and cultural sovereignty.

Where the funds are going:

50% of funds will be allocated to Jamaican organisations and initiatives.

Our focus is:

- Environmental and agricultural initiatives
- Schools/Education projects or organisations
- Farms +/ Animal Shelters
- Safety for Women and Girls

50% of funds raised will be allocated to continuing our research, education and publishing efforts on the impacts of the climate crisis on Caribbean nations.

Please bear with us as we actively work to identify groups with your support. They will be announced publicly as they are identified, verified and partnerships established.

UPDATE:
The first organisation we’ve identified to donate funds we raise to is Jamaica Basic (Primary) Schools Foundation. A 30 year old organisation based in The Jamaica High Commission office in London, that supports the direct building and development of primary schools across every parish in Jamaica.

Help us make the most impact possible. Please email trusted organisations that you know of/are connected to: georgina@theslowgrind.world

<g:title>The Slow Grind: Practising Hope and Imagination (2023)</g:title>
      <g:description> Independently Published

The Slow Grind: Practicing Hope and Imagination , follows the thread of dreaming, worldmapping and future-thinking that The Slow Grind: Finding Our Way Back to Creative Balance ,the inaugural book published in 2020, spearheaded.

This time, we engage in the project of relearning the importance of hope and imagination. Presenting visions that assert these as principles that require the re-enchanting of our minds and the lighting of a kinetic force within our molecular bodies. This book focuses on radical ecology, the power of art as a memory keeper, and the poetics of creativity as a necessary antidote to the fear and anxiety we are all feeling in the face of multiple crises.

Key to this is a belief that holding hope for our ecology starts with holding hope for ourselves and one another. Filled with the insight of more than 20 thinkers, activists and futurists spanning the globe , the perspectives held within the architecture of this book are concerned with encouraging the development of a planetary consciousness that is informed by hopeful criticality and urgency.

A Creative Anthology and Blueprint for Holistic Change.

The Slow Grind: Finding Our Way Back to Creative Balance is a collection of essays, think pieces and conversations, gathering some of the most formidable voices across the cultural industries.

After selling out in 2020, The Slow Grind returns to print thanks to the award of a publishing grant from Mulberry England.

With insight from biotechnologists, activists and key cultural actors, The Slow Grind is an innovative anthology, representing the growing field of Intersectional Environmentalism. Driven by a commitment to socio-political change, through creative and community-oriented thinking, The Slow Grind positions conversations and writings at the juncture of environmental and social justice. This book explores larger questions that relate to the condition of our world, the makeup of our cultural industries and the future of our communities - human and non-human. This is an invitation. One that hopes to encourage the process of recovery through unlearning.

The carbon from the anthology’s new print run will be offset through an afforestation project in Rio Kama, Nicaragua.
